National Clinical Laboratory Congress

The National Clinical Laboratory Congress was born in 2007 as a result of a merger of the AEBM-ML, AEFA, and SEQC^ML congresses.

With attendance of more than 1,500 professionals, scientific production that exceeds 1,000 presentations and publications, and the presence of the most important companies in the sector, the National Clinical Laboratory Congress has become an indispensable event for laboratory professionals.

Each year, during the three days of the congress, attendees have the opportunity to discover the latest advances in the field of research and delve into the most important issues of their profession with the help of top experts.

With the participation of more than 30 companies and a commercial exhibition that reaches 1,000 m² of trade stands, the National Congress of Clinical Laboratory allows attendees to find out first hand about the latest products and upcoming releases from companies in the sector.

José Luis Castaño-SEQC Foundation

The José Luis Castaño-SEQC Foundation for the development of Laboratory Medicine aims to support a series of actions for the benefit of the SEQC^ML partners so that they can apply for scholarships to attend courses, for studies, or for projects on specific topics in symbiosis with companies, primarily in the field of In-Vitro Diagnostics.

The Board of Directors of the SEQC^ML, as the majority patron of the Foundation, undertook to make this project a reality in honour of its president, José Luis Castaño Vidriales.

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation intends that SEQC^ML members have the option of benefiting directly from the society´s management and from any actions that the members themselves propose.

External Quality Assurance Programmes (EQAS)

The SEQC^ML has External Quality Assurance Programmes for clinical laboratories. These programmes are effective tools for ascertaining and improving the reliability of clinical laboratory results.

Currently, there is an extensive catalogue of programmes, including: Biochemistry, Extra-analytics, Microbiology, Serology, Trace Elements (OELM), and Immunology, Immunochemistry and Allergy (UK NEQAS), which allow the evaluation of more than 350 tests and procedures.

These schemes are organized by the External Quality Assurance Programmes Committee, with more than 40 years of experience. They have the following characteristics: they work via web service, the data processing is computerized, the duration of the schemes is annual, the periodicity is monthly or quarterly (depending on the programme), certificates of registration and participation are given, the results are confidential, and participation is anonymous.

The SEQC^ML is a Proficiency Testing Provider accredited by ENAC in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17043 standard. Moreover, it has implemented a quality management system in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 9001 standard certified by AENOR.

Training courses

The SEQC^ML prepares a series of training activities each year, in order to help its members maintain their level of scientific knowledge. These activities are carried out in person or in "online" mode through the Moodle platform.

Most of the courses are organized by the members of the Society´s Scientific Committee, which is composed of representatives from the various Commissions that cover the different fields of knowledge in Laboratory Medicine.

There are a series of basic activities that are carried out each year, such as the online Continuing Education Program, in which nine current topics are presented, or the online courses that address the topics that are considered most interesting for members, or clinical cases.

There is another activity, a webinar, which is similar to a face-to-face meeting because it allows attendees to interact with each other. It is a way to share information (documents and applications), give a talk, or dictate a course in real time with the same quality as if it were carried out in person in a classroom.
Advances in Laboratory Medicine / Avances en Medicina de Laboratorio

Advances in Laboratory Medicine / Avances en Medicina de Laboratorio (Adv Lab Med) is the official journal of the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SEQC^ML).

Adv Lab Med publishes contributions in the field of medical sciences, including Biochemistry, Hematology, Toxicology, Microbiology and Parasitology, Immunology, and Genetics. Articles focusing on the choice, performance or interpretation of clinical tests are especially welcome.

Adv Lab Med is an international scientific peer-review, Open Access journal, which is issued quarterly. Authors are not charged for manuscript processing and publication. Adv Lab Med is a bilingual journal, and publishes both in English and Spanish. SEQC^ML will cover processing and publication charges. The Society plays no role in the selection and publication of the articles, nor does it influence peer review.

Lab Tests Online

Lab Tests OnLine (LTO) has been designed to help patients to understand test results of the analysis performed in clinical laboratories, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of health conditions and diseases. Through this website users are provided with information about tests to help them better understand the report they receive from the laboratory and why those tests have been requested.

The ultimate goal is to help everyone to be more responsible of their own health and promote and enhance at the same time the role of the clinical laboratory in the healthcare process.

Lab Tests Online (LTO) has been an initiative of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC); Lab Tests Online ES (www.labtestsonline.es) is the Spanish version. The scientific content is endorsed by experts of the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SEQC^ML) and the web has received several accreditations (HONcode, WMA, SEAFORMEC and Health-EU) that guarantee their veracity and reliability.
